In recent years, “late antique epigraphy” has increasingly become a field of study of its own, and it now appears as a phenomenon sui generis – as demonstrated by conference volumes like La terza età dell’epigrafia (1988), or The Epigraphic Cultures of Late Antiquity (2017).
