After graduating in Geography from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Eñaut Izagirre Estibaritz completed a Master of Science in Antarctic Sciences with mention in Glaciology at the Universidad de Magallanes (Punta Arenas, Chile). In his master’s thesis, he focused on the geomorphology and variability of glaciers in the past and collaborated with various institutions such as the British Antarctic Survey. In 2015, he received a grant from the National Geographic Society for a research and exploration expedition to the southernmost icefield in South America. In 2018, he returned to the UPV/EHU to work as a predoctoral researcher; his PhD project focuses on the evolution of the Cordillera Darwin Icefield (Tierra del Fuego). He then worked as a lecturer at the Department of Geography from 2021 to 2023 and since February 2024 he has been part of the CryoPyr research group at the Instituto Pirenaico de Ecologia (IPE-CSIC).

Desde los años finales del siglo pasado, he tenido la suerte de crecer y educarme rodeado del magnífico paisaje montañoso del Pirineo. Recuerdo especialmente aquel verano de 1998, un día nublado y fresco, donde la galopante “gabacha” recorría el cordal de la divisoria entre la vertiente francesa de Gavarnie y la vertiente española de Ordesa.
