Víctor Diz is a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist currently pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in Popular Music (expected graduation in the first semester of 2026) and Composition (expected graduation in the second semester of 2026) at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). His background is complemented by a Cross-Disciplinary Program in Traditional Knowledge and by specializations in arranging for large instrumental ensembles with Gaia Wilmer (2023) and at the Escola Portátil de Música, under the guidance of Maurício Carrilho (Composition, 2025) and Jayme Vignoli (Arranging, 2025). In the field of composition, notable works include the chamber piece « Palimpsesto: Arquiteturas Dissidentes » (2025), premiered under the guidance of Ayran Nicodemo, and the contemporary pieces « Canção de Siruiz » (solo piano, written for Ana Cláudia Assis, 2022) and « Poti-Samburá » (flute, written for Eric Lamb, co-principal of the International Contemporary Ensemble, 2021), both supervised by Igor Maia and Oiliam Lana. In the realm of film music, he won the Best Soundtrack award at the 46th Guarnicê Film Festival (2023) for the short film « Pai em Versos, » by Júlio Sales, featuring the track « Um Novo Começo, » which was recorded on an album with the participation of João Donato and produced by Alexandre Kassin. As an arranger, his work is exemplified by the commissioned piece « Crônica da Casa Assassinada, » by Tom Jobim (2024), written for the Geraes Big Band and the SESI-Minas String Orchestra at the invitation of Rafael Martini, Pedro Mota, and Felipe Magalhães. His work as an instrumentalist (trumpet, flugelhorn, electric guitar, and 7-string acoustic guitar) ranges from the musical « Os Sonhos Não Envelhecem » (2022), directed by Dennis Carvalho, to studio recordings on « Vera Cruz » (Milton Nascimento, arr. Lucas Telles) and « Dual » (Rafael Martini), both for the Geraes Big Band. Alongside his creative pursuits, he acts as an undergraduate researcher (PIBIC/CNPq) supervised by Prof. Sérgio Freire, focusing on the typology of Hermeto Pascoal’s harmonic vocabulary. His work in this area has been presented at national conferences (ANPPOM 2023/2024) and internationally at the Université Bordeaux Montaigne (France, 2024).
